West Virginia Linebacker Nick Kwiatkoski: Fourth Round, Pick 113 to the Chicago Bears

West Virginia linebacker Nick Kwiatkoski might not have found a better place to land than with the Chicago Bears. The hard-nosed linebacker will find an appreciative audience in the Windy City when he puts his all-out style of play on the field.

West Virginia linebacker Nick Kwiatkoski parlayed his quietly outstanding play into a fourth-round selection by the Chicago Bears. Kwiatkoski is the third Mountaineer taken in the 2016 NFL Draft. A sure and steady performer who racked up 303 tackles during his career, Kwiatkoski follows two defensive mates -- Karl Joseph and Daryl Worley, into the league.

NFL.com Evaluation

Has production that has filled up stat sheet for three straight years. Finished last three seasons with 275 tackles. Former safety with a feel for what is developing around him. Had 10 passes defensed this season and two seasons with three interceptions. Good balance to maneuver around trash and get to the tackle. Tough play demeanor and technically sound tackler. Chest up tackler who drives through his target to finish. Gets downhill with timing as a blitzer. Has aggressiveness and nose for the ball to become a special teams performer.

NFLDraftScout Evaluation

Possesses an athletic body type with room for at least another 10 pounds. Instinctive defender who locates the football quickly, showing burst and agility to evade would-be blockers. Reliable open-field tackler, wrapping his long arms around ball-carriers for the secure stop. Flashes some explosiveness as a hitter, generating impressive closing speed and power to deliver a thud. Experience at safety is clear in his pass drops, where he shows balance and fluidity while changing directions, as well as route recognition. Intercepted six passes over his career at West Virginia and picked off another during a solid showing during Senior Bowl practices. Selfless defender willing to take out the legs of oncoming blockers or fight to keep contain and force ball-carriers inside (where more defenders are waiting) rather than attempt to make the tackle himself and leave his teammates vulnerable. Plays with the kamikaze style to project well to special teams. -- Rob Rang
