West Virginia Continuing Push in Georgia With Football Offers

New Mountaineer defensive backs coach Danny “Blue” Adams made his recent stop at Woodland High School in Stockbridge Georgia a substantial one.

While visiting with Woodlands head coach  Steve Davenport, Danny Adams uncorked a whopper of an offer sheet. By the end of the visit, four of the Wolfpack had been called into Davenport’s office to receive an offer from West Virginia.

After reviewing film and talking to the player, Coach Adams had offered linebacker Tre Allen, cornerback Shakur Brown,  Yusuf Corker and defensive tackle JayQuan Coles. All are Class of 2017 prospects.

“My coach called me in and Coach Blue offered me. He offered three of my teammates too,” said Brown. “We talk about (playing together) all the time. If that would happen it would be a blessing.”

“(The offer) felt great. WVU is my top school right now. I grew up watching West Virginia. My favorite player from West Virginia was Tavon Austin. He's who really made me start watching them,” said Brown, who measures in at six feet and 175 pounds. He also claims a 4.46 time in the forty.

Allen is a six foot, 220-pound linebacker who said he also grew up watching the Mountaineers on TV.

I like WVU. I used to watch them a lot back when Pat White was playing QB, and Noel Devine was at RB. So I'm pretty familiar with their program. (Coach Adams and I) just started communicating so the relationship will grow,” Allen said.

Brown said college coaches have begun to stop by Woodland more frequently. “Nobody ever really heard about us until we started coming on last year.” The Wolfpack finished 2015 at 7-3. Allen finished with 49 tackles, three sacks and one fumble recovery.  Brown meanwhile finished the year with 20 tackles and three INTs.

Brown said he and fellow corner Corker have two trips planned so far this summer.

“Me and Yusuf Corker are going to Penn State to see the campus, and we're going to go to South Carolina. And I'm going to a couple of camps this summer as well.”

Allen doesn’t have any trip dates set in stone, but would like to get to WVU and several others.  “I don't have any visits lined up at the moment, but I do plan to visit WVU, Colorado State, Marshall and Missouri hopefully sometime this summer. I'll most likely be going to the Wake Forest elite camp too.”

Allen’s offers include Wake forest, WVU, Missouri, Marshall, Colorado state, Troy, Georgia Southern and several FCS schools. Brown’s offers are West Virginia, Purdue, Marshall and Georgia Southern.

Neither player has a favorite or a timetable set for a decision.

“I'm going to play it by ear. Maybe announce at the end of our season, the last couple games. Right now I really don't know. I’m still kind of confused and just trying to take everything in,” Brown said.

Allen agreed, saying, “It's still early in the process.”
