"We had a good day and a good workout, but I didn't think the intensity as far as hitting was any good. But, when you don't tackle that can happen. We just went "thud" today rather than taking people to the ground, but sometimes its a pillowfight. But we'll get after it tomorrow afternoon."
The afternoon session will feature the big scrimmage, which will be a "long, long" one according to the head coach. Rodriguez also added that some established starters such as Quincy Wilson, Grant Wiley and Tim Brown might get limited work in order to provide more work for some underclassmen.
While the offense showed a bit more punch, the defense was working on installing more of their pressure games and blitz packages. Last year's conservatism, which was born out of the necessity of keeping the defense simple enough as the new 3-3 stack was taught, will fall a bit by the wayside as more pressure will be brought to bear on opposning quarterbacks. Adam Jones pled guilty to a charge of misdemeanor battery today in Monongalia County Court. The plea stemmed from an altercation in a Sunnyside bar last year. Sentencing for Jones will be sometime in October. Additionally, linebacker Leandre Washington had misdemeanor charges reinstated against him, and will face a later court date. Head coach Rich Rodriguez released a statement saying "Any of our student-athletes who are involved in incidents are subject to disciplinary action within our football family. The action involving Adam Jones and Leandre Washington was an isolated incident that happened a year ago and our coaches will handle the discipline within our team rules."
