Athlete Ricky Johns Gives West Virginia Its Second Football Commitment of the Day

Pennsylvania athlete Ricky Johns pushed West Virginia's 2017 football commitment total to 11 when he made the Mountaineers his choice on Sunday evening.

Ricky Johns, a two-way player from North Penn High School, continued a great Sunday evening for West Virginia when he committed to the Mountaineer program.

"West Virginia has been my number one, and I've talked it over with my coach, and felt like it was time to commit," he told BlueGoldNews.com. "The football facilities and Morgantown in general reall\y stand out to me, plus my relationship with coach Mark Scott.

Johns, whose video shows excellent ball skills while playing wide receiver and safety for North Penn, is WVU's 11th commitment in the class. That puts the Mountaineers fifth in the Big 12 in total commitments, behind Iowa State (16), Oklahoma and Oklahoma State (15) and Texas Tech (12).

Johns, a rangy player standing six feet, three inches, attacks the ball whether on the offensive or defensive side. He catches the ball cleanly away from his body, and shows good hustle even when the play is away from him. He will begin his WVU career as a sfety on defense, where he counts his ball reaction and quarterback reading ability as strengths.
