First Look At Mountaineer Offense Pushing Tempo

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - During today's practice session we got our first look of camp at West Virginia running team offense. Each of the first two teams ran one series practicing tempo with simulated crowd noise pumping through the speakers.

In the video above we see the first team offense running a series that includes completed passes to Shelton Gibson, Rushel Shell and Ka'Raun White. It appeared that there was only a scripted number of plays as the offense went back to the sideline after marching the ball down to the 10 yard line. There were no surprises in the first team lineup, which included Tyler OrloskySkyler HowardDaikiel Shorts and Jovon Durante.

Immediately after the first team offense left the field the second team came out to practice running up-tempo offense. Despite being listed as the No. 2 quarterback Chris Chugunov did not line up behind center. Instead the versatile William Crest played quarterback with backs Kennedy McKoy and Justin Crawford. McKoy was on the receiving end of Crest's first completion and Devonte Mathis caught a pass immediately after. Crawford showed some nice shiftiness in a run up the middle but the offense was not able to move the ball far into the defense's territory after it ran its allotted number of plays.
