West Virginia 2017 Football Verbal Commitment Update

Several of West Virginia's 2017 football verbal commitments moved on to state championship games with wins on the first weekend in December. We recap all the action here.


Blasted Venice 46-8 Record: 11-2 Next Game: Fri Dec 9 vs. Plant (Playoffs)
Aquinas will go for its third consecutive state title, and tenth overall, next week when it meets Plant for the Class 7A state championship. The Raiders have made it to the final game 17 times, and have won on their previous six trips.

Shut down Northside 22-7 Record: 13-1 Next Game: Sat Dec 10 vs Valdosta (Playoffs)
As it has all year, the defense led the Tigers to the win, holding Northside to just 191 yards of total offense, while forcing four turnovers. "We knew it'd be a low-scoring game," Tucker head coach Bryan Lamar told The Atlanta Journal Constitution.


Defeated Kell 28-16 Record: Sat Dec 10 vs Rome (Playoffs)
A strong running game again powered the Wolves, who piled up 342 yards on the ground to advance to the Class AAAAA state title game.


Rolled past Destrehan Parkway 50-14 Record: 12-2 Next Game: Sat Dec 10 vs West Monroe (Playoffs)
Bush combined with quarterback Keytaon Thompson to account for 500 of the Charging Buccaneers' 517 yards of offense. Bush had 15 carries for 134 yards and three catches for 82 yards in the win. He scored on a 44-yard run in the first quarter and caught a 37-yard touchdown pass in the fourth.

Harvery had one solo tackle to close out his juco career.

Qualls had another huge game. Included among his nine tackles were three for losses of 13 yards and a sack for minus seven. Four of his nine stops were solo efforts, and he also had a quarterback hurry.

Johns had six catches for 86 yards, including a 14-yard scoring reception.

Lost to Southern Columbia Area 31-27 Record: 14-1 Next Game: Season Complete
Smith completed 11 of 29 passes for 213 yards, but the Rams were hindered by two lost fumbles and a handful of dropped passes. Ligonier had the ball twice down by four points in the fourth quarter, but could not get the final score it needed to complete a rally. Smith rushed for three scores and passed for another in the semi-final loss.

Fairmont came up short in the Class AA state title game but had one of the best seasons in school history. The Polar Bears weren't able to must enough offense to prevent MC from eating up the clock with long drives.
