I, like the Mountaineers, nearly pulled off the upset in week one but fell just short. I expect both of us to rebound as WVU heads to Greenville, NC. The Mountaineers torched East Carolina on the ground last year, and Saturday should be no different. Quincy will prove why he is one of the top backs in the league, and then give way to the younger Mountaineer ball carriers. Rasheed will show why he is the number one guy, but Hales will also see some action. The only obstacle in the way of a blowout will be a fired up ECU crowd ready for revenge. I do not see it being much of a factor, though, as West Virginia rolls to a win. Many more like this one, and John Thompson will be ready to head back to basketball. West Virginia

East Carolina gives up rushing yards like the Iraqi Republican Guard. West Virginia rushes like Sherman's Army through the South. This one will get ugly early. West Virginia

At the beginning of every ECU home game a purple haze clouds the field, Jimi Hendrix's 'Purple Haze' blares from the stadium's sound system and the East Carolina Pirates emerge from the smoke enthused and ready to play. Unfortunately for ECU, Grant Wiley and the Mountaineer's will have the Pirate players singing the last part of Jimi's tune....
"Purple Haze was in my eyes, don't know if it's day or night, you've got me blowing, blowing my mind is it tomorrow or just the end of time?"

Too much too soon for the Pirates. Playing a game on Monday (Cincinnati) and then turning around and preparing for a game four days later is too much to ask. An inconsistent ECU offense will produce too many three-and-outs and allow WVU plenty of opportunities to score. West Virginia

How is it that WVU is only 9.5 point favorites for this game? It seems like one of those games where the bookies are just daring everyone to bet on WVU for some unknown reason; like they know something no one else does. I'm not buying it. West Virginia

If this game were at Mountaineer Field, West Virginia would probably roll to an easy win. But being in Greenville, there are no guarantees. Thompson has a strong resume, but he's still building. The Pirates' cupboards weren't left bare, but they weren't overflowing either. The loss of Brown hurts, and on the other side, Thompson has a major overhaul on his hands. The team that runs the best figures to win, and that should be the Mountaineers. West Virginia
