West Virginia Adds Tyrese Allen to Football Class of 2018

Following a visit for West Virginia's spring football game, Paintsville (Ky.) defensive lineman Tyrese Allen has committed to West Virginia.

Announcing his decision at his high school, Tyrese Allen became the second commitment -- and the second defensive lineman-- in the Class of 2018. He joins James Gmiter, who was also in attendance at Saturday's Gold - Blue game. Allen (6-3, 300 lbs.) chose the Mountaineers over several other offers  including Purdue, Cincinnati, Memphis, Eastern Kentucky, Ball State, Kent, Western Kentucky, Bowling Green and Marshall. Louisville and Kentucky had also shown strong interest.

As a junior, Allen was credited with 65 tackles from his defensive line position. He pulled double duty for Paintsville, serving as a powerful option as a running back. He gained 184 yards on 28 carries, and scored twice, and was also a physical presence as a blocker. His effort level has gained the attention of several college recruiters, and it was his all-out approach to the game that attracted recruiters to his door.

Allen figures to get more attention over the summer and as his fall season plays out, but it looks as if West Virginia's early jump in the recruiting process has paid dividends. Allen is just the sort of no-nonsense grinder that thrives in the Mountaineer program, and it won't be a surprise to see him become a mainstay of WVU lines of the future.

Allen is rated as the #55 defensive tackle in the nation, #2 in the state of Kentucky and #7 in the Midwest Region.

BlueGoldNews.com will have more from Allen soon.
