Players of the Game - Maryland

On another brutal offensive night for the Mountaineers, we make a rather unconventinal choice for one of our players of the game.

Punter Todd James was unquestionably WVU's best offensive weapon on an evening when the Mountaineer attack sputtered like Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

James averaged 41 yards on nine punts, and put two of those boots inside the Maryland 20 yard line. In addition, James employed the sprint punt to perfection, preventing terrapin return man Steve Suter from becoming a factor in the game. James' kicks were a big reason that Suter averaged only six yards per return.

Adam Jones
Defensively, sophomore Adam "Pac Man" Jones was our selection from several candidates.

Jones, despite being tested repeatedly by the Terrapin passing game, refused to give up any deep plays. Jones broke up three Terrapin passes, including two on consective plays in the end zone.

On the evening, the Georgia native also had seven tackles, including five solo stops.
