Athletic TE/DE Makes Commitment

An athletic two way Pennsylvanian is West Virginia's latest football verbal commitment.

Jeanette High School's Mike Dent has made a verbal commitment to attend West Virginia.

Dent visited WVU during the weekend of the Cincinnati game, and apparently liked what he saw of the Mountaineer program.

Dent (6-4, 245) is a two way player at Jeannette at tight end and defensive end. Dent is an impact player who makes his presence felt on both sides of the ball.

Dent is also a very good basketball player, earning first-team Class AA all-section honors as a freshman, sophomore and junior. A forward, he averaged 17.5 points per game last season after posting 16.3 points and nine rebounds as a sophomore. He scored 18.6 points a game as a freshman. Mike earned first-team all-conference notice for his play on the gridiron as a junior as well. Dent has helped Jeannette, which is the second-ranked squad in Class AA in the WPIAL, to a 4-0 record to this point in the season.

Dent is the ninth verbal commitment the Mountaineers have received so far for the class of 2004, which can not sign binding letters of intent until February. Of those nine, six of them are from Pennsylvania and five of those are from the Pittsburgh area.
