Players of the Game - BC

A first time starter and a young big play specialist were our picks for players of the game in West Virginia's 35-28 win over Boston College.

Quarterback Charles Hales, starting his first game for the Mountaineers, came up big in leading WVU to the huge road win.

Never displaying any nerves, the junior quarterback completed 11 of 16 passes for 167 yards and three touchdowns. Perhaps more importantly, Hales did not commit a turnover.

The junior college transfer also added 19 yards on the ground, and scrambled to make a big fumble recovery in the fourth quarter that could have set the Eagles up in excellent field position for a possible game-tying touchdown.

Adam Jones
Defensively, Adam "Pac Man" Jones came up with two huge returns that were the difference in the contest. Jones stepped in front of Paul Peterson pass and returned it 49 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter to tie the game at 14-14.

Then, in the fourth quarter, Jones answered a Boston College touchdown with an 87 yard kickoff return for a score that provided the Mountaineers with the winning margin.

Jones also kncoked down a pass, and would have been credited with another were it not for a shaky pass interference call late in the game.
