Jones To Serve as US Wrestling Team Coach

WVU assistant wrestling coach Zeke Jones will serve as the US World Freestyle Wrestling Team coach at the World Championships in Bulgaria in November.

Jones will assume the duties of Mark Manning, who will be unable to attend the meet due to commitments at the University of Nebraska.

Jones was the 1991 World Champion and a silver mecalist in the 1992 Olympics. He competed on two World Championship teams for the U.S. in 1993 and 1995.

"This group can do well, no matter the circumstances," said Jones of his team. "We can be World Champions as individuals and as a team."

The change in coaches is tied to the terrorist attacks on the United States on September 11, which caused the postponement of the meet. The meet was originally scheduled for New Your City on September 26-29.

With the meet pushed back to this month, Manning would have missed multiple events at the University of Nebraska, where he is the head wrestling coach. The move also affects a couple of wrestlers on the team, who will also miss the meet to compete for their colleges.
