BlueGoldNews.com Player of the Game - Rhode Island

Among a host of worthy candidates, WVU's junior center stood out with a school record nine rejections in WVU's 79-72 win over Rhode Island.

Fischer just missed the first triple double of his career, recording 11 points, nine rebounds and nine blocked shots against the Rams. Fischer's play shut down the lane as an offensive option for Rhody, and forced the visitors to switch to a perimeter-oriented game for much of the second half.

WVU had a number of other POG candidates, including Tyrone Sally, who had 17 points, Kevin Pittsnogle, who hit 4-6 from three point range, and Patrick Beilein, who also had four treys. However, in the end, it was Fischer's play that put a crimp in the Ram offense and staked the Mountaineers to their win.

Fischer hit just three of his eight shots from the field, but knocked down five of his seven free throw attempts. He also had four assists and a steal in 37 minutes of action.
