Offensive Line Woes

The offensive line is hurting heading into the Temple game on Saturday.

Offensive line stalwart Brad Knell is doubtful for the Temple game with a pinched nerve, according to head football coach Rich Rodriguez.

Knell was one of several Mountaineers to be injured on the concrete hard surface of the Carrier Dome last Saturday.

In addition to Knell at right guard, left guards Jason Brooks and Ken Sandor are both still questionable. Neither was slated to practice on Tuesday.

In their absence, Jeff Berk and Geoff Lewis will continue to get the bulk of the practice time at guard. In light of the questionable status of Brooks and Sandor, backup center Justin Williams will also get some work at guard this week.

The injuries aren't confined to the offensive side of the ball. Tim Love's recurring shoulder problem will cause him to miss practice time again this week and has him very questionable for Saturday. Lew Daniels has an ankle injury that has limited his time, and Adam Lehnortt is just recoving from a concussion that kept him out of practice during the previous week.

Toss in Angel Estrada, who was lost for the season with a broken leg, and the picture isn't rosy for either unit.

There is some good news for Estrada, whose leg was set before he left Syracuse. The break should not present any long-term problems for him over the offseason, so he should be ready to play during spring drills.
