Head coach Rich Rodriguez was happier with the intensity and effort on another beautiful day for football, but was concerned with the lack of productivity on offense and the execution from some of his veterans.
In addition to the spotty running game, the passing game was also hampered by several drops. Chris Henry did record a nice catch over corenrback Anthony Mims, while Eddie Jackson caught a pass in the seam and held on to it despite a big hit from Ridwan Malik. Charles Hales also had a touchdwon grab on a pass from Dwayne Thompson that was called back due to a penalty.
Defensively, Adam Jones had two interceptions, including one on the second play from scrimmage that he returned for a touchdown. Mike Lorello grabbed another pick, and Larry Williams had a chance for a fourth, but saw the ball skip off his hands and right to a waiting Chris Henry for an offensive completion.
The offense again scrimmaged from several different spots on the field, but did not work on plays from close to their own goal line. The end of the practice session was dominated by a long series of plays in the red zone. Despite the point blank range for the offense, the defense still manged to get their share of stops in the most spirited action of the day.
The team will now have Easter weekend off, and return for three more practices next week before Saturday's Gold-Blue scrimmage game.
Wide receiver Nathan Forse, who has been having a solid spring, was in a cast with a hairline fracture. Tight end Ryan Thomas returned to full contact duty. Quarterback Adam Bednarik again did not participate due to a bruised right shoulder.
