Magee Named Offensive Coordinator

West Virginia University football coach Rich Rodriguez has announced that assistant coach Calvin Magee has been named offensive coordinator for the upcoming season.

Magee is an original member of Rodriguez' staff and has coached the running backs since his arrival at WVU in 2001. As WVU's run game coordinator, Magee has coached two 1,000-yard rushers and first team all-BIG EAST performers in Avon Cobourne and Quincy Wilson, while the Mountaineer running game has ranked second and 14th in the nation the past two seasons.

"Calvin is an outstanding football coach and we are excited to give him some additional responsibilities. I will still call the plays, and the offense will remain the same, but Calvin will have a lot of input in organizing our offensive plans and methods as will the entire offensive staff," Rodriguez says. "All of our offensive coaches understand our offense and have input in the play selection, personnel and game plans. Calvin will organize and continue to help in our progress in this area."

Magee has been a hot commodity in coaching circles, and has turned down two opportunities to coach at LSU during his tenure at West Virginia.

West Virginia opens the 2004 football season at home on September 4 against East Carolina. Season tickets are on sale now at the Mountaineer Ticket Office and can be purchased by calling 1-800-WVU GAME.
