WVU Football Excels In Classroom

West Virginia University football players had a strong showing in the classroom for the spring semester, Coach Rich Rodriguez says.

The team grade-point average was 2.65 overall, with 66 players earning a 2.5 or higher and 42 earning a place on the Athletic Director's Academic Honor Roll with at least a 3.0 average.

Three Mountaineers posted a perfect 4.0 GPA last semester: Brad Cooper, Jay Henry and Travis McClintic.

"Overall, I'm very proud of the effort our guys made academically," Rodriguez says. "We are always striving to do better, but I think our team realizes the importance of taking advantage of their educational opportunities and being true student-athletes.

"Our goal is a 100% graduation rate and all our players having a sincere desire to become a West Virginia University graduate. I am so proud that 10 of our 18 seniors this season will have their degrees by the time we play East Carolina, and all the others are on track to graduate by next May. That shows a strong commitment on their part."
