Cooper Adds To In-State Tidal Wave

Weir High School's Zac Cooper ended what little suspense remained in his recruiting by committing to West Virginia.

"WVU was my favorite, and I've had them at the top of my list all along, so I didn't see any reason to wait any longer," Cooper told "I'm glad to go ahead and get it done."

Cooper is the first of what figures to be at least four linebacker commitments for the Mountaineers. WVU is a bit thin at that position this year, and will graduate starters Scott Gyorko and Adam Lehnortt following this season.

Cooper is the third in-state player to commit to WVU this year, following Parkersburg South's Ryan Dawson and Martinsburg's Nate Sowers.

"I didn't talk to either of them, but it is a good thing that WVU is getting all the best players in the state," Cooper observed. "Having all of us playing together at WVU should be great."

The Mountaineers are still watching some in-state players, most notably Roane County's Derek Hardman, and Moorefield's Reed Williams.
