Harris Nabs Award For Record Setting Night

Kay Jay Harris' big night against East Carolina resulted in an honor from the Walter Camp Football Foundation.

The Foundation, based in New Haven, Conn., named Harris as its Division 1A offensive player of the week.

Harris rushed for a school and Big East record 337 yards on 25 attempts in the 10th ranked Mountaineers' 56-23 season-opening victory over the Pirates. The Tampa, Fla. native eclipsed the WVU single-game record of 291 yards(Kerry Marbury vs. Temple, 1971) and the Big East mark of 299 (Edgerrin James vs. UCLA, 1998).

Harris, who wasn't even in the starting lineup, scored four touchdowns on runs of 2, 5, 51 and 76 yars as WVU won its 24th straight game when scoring 30+ points. Harris totaled 223 rushing yards in the first half, including an incredible 168 in the second quarter.
