Harris Gets Big East Honor

The awards continue to roll in for Kay Jay Harris after his record-setting rushing performance against East Carolina.

Kay Jay Harris (Tampa, Fla.) set a Big East and West Virginia record with 337 rushing yards in the Mountaineers' 56-23 victory over East Carolina to earn the Big East Conference Offensive Player of the Week for September 6. The senior running back became the first player in conference and school history to surpass the 300-yard plateau on the ground.

The performance, the 24th best in NCAA history, was posted on 25 carries for a 13.5-yard average. Harris also had four touchdowns, scoring on runs of 76, 51, five and two yards. He had 223 yards in the first half, including 168 in the second quarter. The first half effort broke the school record set by Armin Marht versus Marietta in 1922, while the second quarter total broke the school record set by Garrett Ford, Sr., against Pitt in 1965.
