Pepperdine Quick Recap

West Virginia was non-competitive from the outset in Sunday's 97-65 blasting by the Waves of Pepperdine.

Pepperdine (6-6) ran out to an early 9-1 lead and were never threatened as they took the consolation game of the Fiesta Bowl Classic in Tucson.

WVU (7-4) was particularly noxious on defense, allowing the Waves to penetrate at will and failing to defend many of Pepperdine's three point attempts.

Pepperdine led 53-29 at the half, which turned the second half into a glorified scrimmage as WVU head coach Gale Catlett desperately searched for any combination that would provide a spark for the Mountaineers.

The crushing pair of defeats in the desert leaves many serious questions as WVU heads back east to begin Big East Conference play next Saturday against St. John's.

More coverage is on the way, including the box score, a detailed game story, and photos.
