A pair of young Mountaineers started off the new year right by heading the Big East's weekly women's basketball awards list.
Freshman guard Sherell Sowho earned her second rookie of the week honor after helping West Virginia to its 89-39 win over Robert Morris.
The Bristol, Virginia native scored 17 points a grabbed a career-high eight rebounds. Sowho added five assists and three steals in 29 minutes of action.
Sowho has helped WVU to three road wins on the year, which is one more than they won in the last two seasons combined.
Joining Sowho on the honors list is sophomore guard Kate Bulger of Pittsburgh, PA. Bulger was instrumental in the Mountaineers' 89-39 victory over Robert Morris. She scored a career-high 33 points on 14-of-24 field goals, including five 3-pointers. Bulger also collected four rebounds, three steals, two assists and had no turnovers in 29 minutes.
The play of these two, along with fellow freshman Yolonda Paige, has been instrumental in WVU's return to respectability under first year head coach Mike Carey.
WVU is now 7-4 on the season, and returns to conference play on Thursday with a matchup against Villanova.
