Big East Honor for Paige

West Virgina's Yolanda Paige is off to a tremendous start, earning Big East conference player of the week honors for her performance last week.

In a 3-0 week for West Virginia, Yolanda Paige led the Mountaineers past Northwestern (89-55), Wichita State (61-40) and Florida International (58-49), averaging 15.7 points, 9.0 assists and 2.7 rebounds. She made 50 percent of her shots from the field during the three contests.

In WVU's win over Northwestern, Paige shattered the all-time school record for single game assists with 18 against the Wildcats, from the previous high of 15 set in 1992. She also added 11 points against Northwestern for her 10th career double-double.

At the FIU/Herald Thanksgiving Classic in Miami, Fla., Paige was named the Tournament Most Valuable Player after averaging 18 points and 4.5 assists in the two games played.

Paige continued her giving ways in WVU's recent victory over Longwood. The speedy senior dished out 17 assists, one short of her newly-minted school record, in the win over the Lancers.

Paige should be one of the top contenders for the Nancy Lieberman Award, which is presented to the outstanding point guard in women's collegiate basketball.

Paige, along with WVU sophomore Meg Bulger, are penning diaries for throughout the season.
