In the 1st half WVU got off to its typical slow start and were down by 9 before the fans had settled into their seats. The Mountaineers then woke up, and behind Chris Moss, took a 1 point lead. The Herd then reclaimed the lead and went into the lockerroom with a 31-25 lead. WVU was lead by Moss with 8 points and Jay Hewitt with 6.
In the second half, WVU again got off to a slow start, falling behind by double-digits after a few minutes. WVU, lead by Drew Schifino and Josh Yeager, found its shooting touch and came back to take a 1 point lead with 5 minutes to go. The two teams then traded baskets for the remaining 5 minutes and ended regulation with a 71-71 tie.
In overtime, Marshall took the early lead and never relinquished it and won the game 81-79.
