Coach Rod: Academics Mostly Good

West Virginia University football players had a solid showing in the classroom for the fall semester, Coach Rich Rodriguez says.

Fifty players earned a place on the Athletic Director's Academic Honor Roll with at least a 3.0 average (including nine of 15 true freshmen); 65 players made at least a 2.75 GPA.

Linebacker Jay Henry posted a perfect 4.0 GPA last semester; he has met that mark every semester during his college career.

"I'm proud of many of the academic achievements of our football squad," Rodriguez says, "yet we are always striving to do better. Our goal is a 100 percent graduation rate every year and we're getting closer. We will continue to stress academic success and work as hard as we can to help each of our players reach the goal of becoming a West Virginia University graduate."

Only two players, Marcus Platt and Vince Beamer, have reportedly failed to remain eligible for the spring semester.
