Etzel Tabbed For Conference

West Virginia University sport psychologist Dr. Ed Etzel has been selected to participate in the first-ever NCAA "Psychological Health Issues of the Collegiate Student-Athlete" seminar February 4-5 in Indianapolis.

Etzel, a former WVU rifle coach and Olympic gold medalist, will be presenting a panel on ethics, along with Dr. Sam Maniar of Ohio State (a WVU counseling psychology graduate).

The NCAA is hosting the conference to provide psychologists with defined roles within collegiate athletic departments to investigate and facilitate efforts within this underserved aspect of the health care of college athletes.

Etzel coached the WVU Rifle team from 1976-89, where he recorded an awesome 101-3 career coaching record. He coached more than 30 WVU All-Americans and won five NCAA National Championships.

He won gold at the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles in English Match Rifle, and also took home gold medals from the 1978 World Championships and the 1979 Pan American Games. He dominated U.S Competitions, with 11 National Championships to his credit.
