Drew Catlett's debut as a head coach was successful as WVU played with intensity in downing Providence 89-81 at the Coliseum on Wednesday.

WVU, (1-6 8-11) got monster games from Chaz Briggs and Chris Moss in securing the win. Brigss had 13 points and 13 rebounds, while Moss tallied 26 points and nine boards in the contest.

Providence (3-5 12-10) hit 11 three pointers to stay in the game, but the Mountaineers executed well down the stretch and hit their free throws to keep the Friars at bay. WVU hit 33-42 from the free throw line in the slap-filled contest.
