Report: Leibig Commits, To Enroll in 2003

According to the Naples Daily News, Naples High School defensive end Pat Liebig is set to commit to West Virginia University.

Liebig (6-3 220), who was named the Naples Daily News Defensive Player of the Year, racked up 68 tackles and 12 1/2 sacks for the Golden Eagles. Eleven of those tackles were for losses.

"I've always wanted to play Division I," he told the Daily News. "And they have 65,000 fans at every game. They play Miami, Virginia Tech and Boston College every year."

Liebig's head coach and defensive coordinator both rave about his quickness and first step, which were keys in attaining his sack total in 2001.

It is not clear at this point whether Liebig will sign next week and defer his enrollment until January, or whether he will simply enroll in January 2003. Either way, Liebig's scholarship will not count against this year's total.

Liebig will reportedly visit WVU this weekend.

Naples won the Florida Class 5A state title this year behind the efforts of Leibig and star running back Duane Coleman, who is still consdering several schools.
