West Virginia's women's basketball team will be the seventh seed in the Big East tournament, which commences on Saturday.
The Mountaineers, again devastated by injuries this season, finished the regular season 16-11 overall, and 7-9 in the conference. WVU lost its final two games of the season, against Notre Dame
and UConn, to fall into a tie for sixth with Georgetown and St. John's. The Hoyas, by virtue of a tiebreaker, claimed the sixth seed, while the Red Storm fell to eighth.
WVU will face tenth-seeded Pitt at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday in the opening round of the tournament. The winner of that game will face secnd-seeded Notre Dame on Sunday at the same time.
Barring a run to the tournament championship, the Mountaineers are likely headed for the women's NIT.
