Makes It Official

J.R. House has enrolled at West Virginia University and plans to become a member of the Mountaineer football team, Coach Rich Rodriguez announced today.

House will attend summer school classes and will be a member of the WVU squad when players report for preseason camp August 5.

"We're excited about J.R. joining our Mountaineer family," Rodriguez says. "He has a lot of rehab to do to get his shoulder ready for August, but he is a great addition to our program."

The 1996 and 1998 West Virginia state high school player of the year, when he passed for a then-national-record 14,457 career yards at Nitro High, House has spent the past six years in the Pittsburgh Pirates' baseball organization, earning a brief stint in the major leagues in 2003 and 2004.

House attended West Virginia's spring football game on Apr. 16th.
