Maker Named New Assistant Coach

After countless inquiries, Mountaineer men's basketball coach John Beilein has his new assistant coach.

Mike Maker, a 17 year veteran of the college basketball coaching world, was hired today to fill the void left by former assistant Jeff Neubauer, who was hired as the new head coach at Eastern Kentucky.

Most recently, coach Maker was an assistant at Samford for the past three seasons. His job there included scouting, coaching, and organzing recruiting efforts for the Bulldogs men's basketball team.

Prior to his stint in Birmingham, the graduate of California Baptist College was the associate head coach for Ivy League member Dartmouth for 11 years. An interesting twist here is that the current head coach for the Big Green is Terry Dunn, the twin brother of current Mountaineer assistant Jerry.

Other stops during Maker's rise through the coaching ranks include one season as the women's head coach at Hartnell Community College, and two seasons as an assistant and junior varsity head coach at his alma mater.

The Salinas, Calif. native holds a bachelor's degree in physical education from California Baptist, and in 1990 received a master's degree in education from Asuza Pacific.
