WVU Receives Second Athletics Certification

The NCAA Division 1 Committe on Athletics Certification has announced that West Virginia University is one of ten schools that has successfully completed the second cycle of athletics certification.

The certification means that an institution operates its athletics program in substantial conformity with operating principles adopted by the Division 1 membership.

WVU was one of the initial schools to receive certification during the first cycle of reviews, whcih was good for five years. This second cycle is good for ten years. The purpose of the certification is to ensure integrity in each institution's athletics program and to assist institutions in improving their athletics departments.

The certification includes reviews of each institution's government, commitment to rules compliance, academic integrity, fiscal integrity and commitment to equity.
