WVU - Georgetown Quick Recap - 2/27/02

Mike Sweetney's twenty points and seventeen rebounds powered Georgetown past West Virginia on Senior night at the WVU Coliseum.

Georgetown, (17-10, 8-7), kept their faint NCAA hopes alive by pounding WVU in the lane all night. Wesley Wilson added 17 points and 8 rebounds as the Hoyas dominated the Mountaineers in the paint.

WVU, (8-19, 1-14), followed their usual pattern of keeping the game close in the first half, then giving up a run midway through the second to fall hopelessly behind. Although the Mountaineers placed five players in double figures in scoring, the offensive effort wasn't enough to make up for another poor defensive effort.

WVU was again shorthanded as sophomore center Chris Garnett was suspended shortly before the contest. Garnett will not play in Saturday's finale, and his career at WVU is in question.

The Mountaineers wrap up their dismal season on Saturday against the Pitt Panthers in the Steel City.
