McCabe, Biggs Gets Baseball Honors

WVU earned a pair of awards from the Big East for their baseball performances over the past week

Third baseman Tim McCabe and pitcher Billy Biggs combined for a West Virginia sweep of the Big East player of the week awards.

McCabe, a junior from Wexford, Pa., went went 7-for-10 with three RBI and two runs scored to help West Virginia win two out of three games in the Simmons MRS Shootout in Rock Hill, S.C.

McCabe, a preseason All-BIG EAST pick, roped a RBI single in the seventh inning against Northern Illinois to clinch a 3-2 victory for the Mountaineers. Against Winthrop, McCabe went 3-for-4 with a double, a solo home run and two RBI.

Junior Billy Biggs, of Scott Depot, W. Va., had another strong outing as he struck out a career-high 10 batters in a 12-1 victory against Akron last Friday. Biggs pitched six innings, allowing one run on seven scattered hits, while walking one.
