Mountaineers Split Again

The win one, lose one pattern continued for the WVU baseball team against St. John's on Saturday.

WVU took the opening game 4-2 on the strength of a complete game by starter Dustin Nippert and a three run homer by first baseman Kurtis Clinton. Nippert allowed only five hits while striking out eight and walking three in the seven inning game.

Clinton's blast broke a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the fifth inning.

In the nightcap, however, WVU's pitching again broke down in a 7-2 loss. The Mountaineers allowed three runs in both the sixth and seventh innings after taking a 1-0 lead on an RBI single by Clinton.

WVU is now 12-10 overall and 4-3 in the Big East conference. The St. John's doubleheader marks the third straight twinbill where the Mountianeers have dropped the second game after winning the first.
