Women's Hoop Slate Announced

West Virginia University athletic director Ed Pastilong today announced the 2005-06 Mountaineer women's basketball schedule. WVU faces nine teams that advanced to postseason action last year including six that qualified for the NCAA Tournament.

"We have a very competitive non-conference schedule," Coach Mike Carey says. "There are great programs and coaches coming into the BIG EAST this year and it's going to be exciting for everyone."

2004-05 NCAA Tournament teams WVU will face include Houston, Notre Dame, Connecticut, DePaul, Louisville and Rutgers. Last season's WNIT opponents the Mountaineers will face this year are Texas A&M - Corpus Christi, South Florida and Villanova.

The Mountaineers will play 13 home games at the WVU Coliseum, 12 away games and two contests on neutral courts. WVU opens non-conference action against UT-San Antonio at the UCF tournament. WVU opens BIG EAST play on the road at Seton Hall, with its first BIG EAST home opener against Louisville.

In BIG EAST action, WVU will play each opponent once including a home-and-home series against Villanova.

WVU is coming off its second consecutive 20-plus win season in which it advanced to the postseason WNIT championship game in 2004-05 with a 21-13 record.

Dates are subject to change. Times will be released at a later date.
