Louisville and USF meet this Saturday in Tampa for what will be the first BIG EAST Conference football game for both schools. The kickoff is 6:45 p.m. Eastern time. ESPNU will televise the game.
Cardinals Keep Inching Up The Polls
The nation continues to keep an eye on Louisville. Last week, the Cardinals defeated Oregon State, 63-27, on the strength of five touchdown passes by sophomore quarterback Brian Brohm. This week, U of L moved up to the eighth spot in the USA Today poll. The Cards are No. 9 in the Associated Press poll.
Mountaineers Notch A Big Win At Maryland
West Virginia improved its record to 3-0 with a 31-19 victory at Maryland last week. WVU, 3-0, never trailed in the game. The Mountaineers host East Carolina this Saturday. It will be the BIG EAST Game of the Week produced by ESPN Regional Television.
BIG EAST Has Three Top 10 Defensive Squads
Three BIG EAST teams are ranked in the top 10 nationally in total defense. Connecticut is first, yielding only 197.7 yards per game. West Virginia is third, giving up 199.33 yards per contest. USF is eighth at 230.7.
USF Keeps Bringing In The Fans
For the second week in a row, USF drew a record crowd to Raymond James Stadium. The Bulls' 31-14 win over Central Florida last Saturday attracted 45,139 fans, which broke the record of 43,122 set the previous week in the game against Florida A&M.
On The Tube This Week
Only four BIG EAST teams are in action on Saturday. Louisville at USF will be carried by ESPNU. The West Virginia-East Carolina contest is the BIG EAST Game of the Week. The league's syndicated package, which is the largest regional college football network in the nation, reaches more than 28 million homes. Cincinnati is playing at Miami, Ohio on Wednesday, Sept. 28 in a game that will be carried by ESPN2.
