Volleyball Gets Conference Win

The crowd who filed into the W.V.U. Coliseum Sunday afternoon saw their Mountaineer volleyball squad down the Seton Hall Pirates in four games.

The first game was neck and neck throughout with the ladies in gold and blue prevailing 30-28. Julie Hockenson, who led the team with 17 kills, was key to capturing the first game with her net play, along with the all around play of sophomore Abby Tevis who led the team with 16 digs.

The second game of the afternoon saw the Pirates dominate the Mountaineers 30-18, evening the match 1-1 going into intermission.

The Mountaineers came out red hot after the break behind seniors Stephanie Zolna (13 kills) and Julie Hockenson, as well as freshman Lisa Hough. The Mountaineers were able to defeat the Pirates 30-26 in each of the final two games, with senior Kelly Mullins capping both games off with thunderous spikes.

The WVU volleyball team won't hit the court again until November 5, when they take on Big East powerhouse Notre Dame. The start time for the game against the Irish is 2:00.
