Chan To Leave WVU

In what may be the first of several moves around the basketball team, backup center Ales Chan is leaving West Virginia University.

A 7-1, 240-pound junior from Prague in the Czech Republic, Chan was a part-time player in his first three seasons with the Mountaineers. He played in 49 games in all, averaging 1.3 points, 1.6 rebounds and 0.27 blocks. This past season he saw action in 20 of WVU's 28 games, averaging 1.6 points, 1.9 rebounds and 0.25 blocks.

Chan spent a year at Fork Union Military Academy in Virginia prior to signing with the Mountaineers in 1999. It is unclear what Chan's future plans will be, as he is entering his final year of Division I eligibility.
