Baseball Team Drops Opener to Rutgers

West Virginia lost another opportunity to move up in the Big East standings with a 6-2 loss at Rutgers in the opening game of a doubleheader on Saturday.

WVU managed only four hits in six innings off Rutgers starter Bobby Brownlie, who is one of the top rated pitchers in college baseball.

The Scarlet Knights racked up ten hits which they combined with two Mountaineer errors to plate their six runs.

WVU falls to 20-17 overall on the season. More importantly, they are now 6-9 in the conference, and trail conference leaders by three games in the loss column. West Virginia has eleven conference games remaining, and can ill afford another loss in this three game weekend series.

Mountaineer ace Billy Biggs will pitch the second game for WVU as they attempt to salvage a split.
