WVU Picked Seventh

West Virginia put three players on the Big East preseason all-conference baseball team, and was picked for seventh, along with Villanova, in the twelve-team league.

WVU infielder Doug Nelms and outfielder Stan Posluszny, both seniors, were named to preseason all-conference honors for 2006. Nelms hit .349 last season, while Posluszny hit .286 with 15 doubles, 12 home runs and 50 RBI.

Junior catcher David Carpenter was tabbed the preseason all-conference catcher after posting a .282 batting average in 38 games, with eight doubles, one triple, three home runs and 18 RBI a year ago.

Notre Dame was again picked to win the league, totalling 119 points. West Virginia tied with Villanova for seventh with 51 points. WVU finished 10-15 in the league and 25-20 overall last year, which placed them seventh.
