Mountaineers Add Philly Athlete

Most had considered it a done deal that John Maddox was off to North Carolina. Apprently someone forgot to tell Rich Rodriguez and his staff, because on Wednesday the rangy receiver pledged his services to the Mountaineers.

Late Wednesday evening John Maddox of West Catholic High in Philadelphia, Pa., informed Scout.com that he had ended his recruitment.

"I was talking to coach (Bill) Kirelawich 20 minutes after school was out and I told him don't worry I'll be down there this summer. I'm going to West Virginia," Maddox said. "The wide receiver's coach was pretty happy that I chose them."

Maddox is a talented two-way standout, teams were recruiting him as a wide receiver and as a safety, so what do the Mountaineer's have planned for him?

"They like me at both positions, but they said they need wide receivers."

Despite rumors that North Carolina had led for his service's, Maddox informed us that it was down to West Virginia and Michigan State.

"I was sold on West Virginia, because of the way they are a team, they play as one. West Virginia is not about individuals. Everyone there plays a role and they play too win championships."
