Kevin Pittsnogle was the runaway choice for our player of the game honors.
Kevin played one of his best games of the season in leading the Mountaineers to a 68-61 victory over a pesky Georgetown squad. The 6'11" center from Martinsburg finished with a game high 23 points, and snared nine rebounds in 39 minutes of action.
Pittsnogle shot 8-15 from the floor, and continued his stellar free throw shooting by nailing 4-5 from the charity stripe. He again showed his improved offensive ability on the low block against big bodied Hoyas like Roy Hibbert and Jeff Green.
Frank Young gets a net burner for his hot start to the second half. After finishing the first half scoreless, the "Tallahassee Kid" made some big plays both at the beginning of the half, and down the stretch. He finished with 10 points, all of which came in the second half.
Mike Gansey turned in a double-double to earn himself a net burner. The Hoyas roughed Gansey up on a couple of occasions, one of which left him halfway towards the back of the tunnel behind the Mountaineers' first half basket. Gansey shook off the bumps to finsih with 15 points, 10 rebounds, and four assists in 37 minutes of action.
The Mountaineer fans deserve a net burner tonight for coming out in droves on a weeknight. The announced crowd of 12,116 for the mid-week Big East battle was predominantly dressed in gold. The students deserve special recognition for filling their sections to the roof more than an hour prior to tipoff. Of course the fact that the first 2,000 students arriving received a free t-shirt from Steve and Barry's didn't hurt, but hopefully the students will come out like this for every remaining home game.
