WVU pitcher Billy Biggs was drafted in the 40th round by the Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday afternoon.
Biggs, who compiled a 7-7 record and a 4.55 ERA as WVU's ace this year, slipped somewhat from his draft position last year, when he was a 36th round selection of the St. Louis Cardinals. Seniors, who have no negotiation leverage once their college careers are complete, often drop to later rounds in the draft.
Biggs allowed opponents only a .253 batting average while hurling ten complete games for the Mountaineers. He was the 1209th overall selection in this year's draft.
Biggs joins WVU pitchers Dustin Nippert and Joe vanGorder as draft selections this season.
