Bye Race

Each day through the end of the regular season, we'll update the race for the four byes in the Big East basketball tournament. Here are the latests standings aafter Monday night's games.

Connecticut 12-2 South Florida (A), Louisville (H) 100%
UConn's win over Villanova on Sunday merely reasserted the Huskies' position atop the league. They have secured one of the first round byes.
Villanova 12-2 St. John's (H), Syracuse (A) 100%
Despite their Sunday loss to UConn, Villanova is also guaranteed a top four finish in the league. They will be watching eight other teams play on Wednesday. They could drop to the fourth seed if they lose both of their remaining games - not a likely event.
West Virginia 11-4 Cincinnati (A) 100%
West Virginia is in, and most likely the three seed, after knocking off Pitt at home on Monday night. The Mountaineers should be well rested for the tournament, with four days off before the closer at Cincinnati, then four more before their first round Big East game. WVU could move up to the number two seed if Villanova loses its final two games.
Georgetown 10-5 South Florida (A) 60%
If Georgetown wins its final game, it holds the tiebreaker over Pitt, but would lose in a tiebreaker to Marquette, which must win both of its final two games to stay in the race.
Marquette 9-5 Louisville (A), Providence (H) 60%
Marquette must sweep its remaining two games, but should that occur, the Golden Eagles are in good shape with tiebreakers. Marquette holds the head-to-head advantage against Georgetown, and split with Pitt, which sends their tiebreaker back to games against the final standings, where they also hold the advantage with a win over UConn.
Pittsburgh 10-5 Seton Hall (H) 5%
The Panthers need help from winless South Florida in order to snare the final bye. Even if Pitt defeats Seton Hall, it will come up short in the tiebreaker against Georgetown if the Hoyas defeat South Florida and both teams finish with identical 11-5 records. It also needs one loss from Marquette in the Golden Eagles' final two games.
