Offensive Outburst

WVU catcher David Carpenter's big week on offense earned him Athlete of the Week honors from the school

Carpenter, a native of Fairmont, W. Va., was 9-15 in five games last week against Maryland-Eastern Shore and Seton Hall. His seven RBI in those games helped the Mountaineers record a 4-1 record over the stretch.

Carpenter shone especially bright against the Pirates in WVU's 7-5 win last Saturday, when he went 5-6 and drove in three runs. On the season, he is hitting .341 with four doubles and 14 RBI.

Carpenter and his teammates will try to keep their winning ways going today in a 3:00 p.m. game against Rutgers. The Mountaineers are first nationally in scoring margin at +5.8 runs per game, fourth in runs scored (9.3) and fifth in winning percentage (86.2%).
