WVU halts new season ticket sales

West Virginia has suspended sales of all new football season ticket orders for the 2006 season.

Renewal orders from all 2005 season ticket holders and Mountaineer Athletic Club members are still being accepted until the priority-seating deadline of June 1. If season tickets are available after the priority deadline, sales could resume later this summer.

"We have reached a point in our sales of season tickets where we need to halt new orders so that we can assure past season ticket holders the opportunity to renew their seats," WVU ticket manager Debby Travinski said. "Season ticket customers from the 2005 season have until June 1 to renew their previous order."

West Virginia's top five finish, expected high ranking and 38-35 Sugar Bowl win over No. 7 Georgia might push sales to record numbers. The Mountaineers, 11-1 last year, open the 2006 football season on September 2 against Marshall at 60,000-seat Milan Puskar Stadium at Mountaineer Field.
