Brooks Named Women's DBO

West Virginia University women's basketball coach Mike Carey today announced the hiring of Wesley Brooks as the team's director of basketball operations. Brooks, a native of Richmond, Va., will be responsible for handling the day-to-day operations of the Mountaineer women's basketball program.

No stranger to the WVU athletic department or the women's team, Brooks recently completed his two-year stint as graduate assistant coach with the squad. He also managed the Mountaineer men's basketball team for four years from 2001-04, his last two as head manager.

Brooks has been highly involved in various basketball camps around the country including Oakland University in Rochester, Mich., Richmond, VCU, WVU, Valdosta State and the world-renowned Five-Star Basketball Camp.

Brooks has also conducted workouts for collegiate athletes and assisted pro basketball players at the IMG Basketball Academy in Bradenton, Fla, and has been published as a feature writer for Got Game, a quarterly basketball magazine.

Brooks is a member of the National Association of Basketball Coaches and graduated from WVU in 2004 with a degree in journalism specializing in broadcast news. He earned his master's in coaching education this past May. He resides in Morgantown.

"It's a wonderful opportunity and I'm very appreciative of Coach Carey," Brooks said. "I'm looking forward to continuing my work with the women's basketball team. I'm glad to part of a program where some special things are in store for the near future."

"Wes will bring enthusiasm, loyalty and basketball knowledge to his position," Carey said. "He has experiencing running camps and I'm very excited to have him a part of the WVU women's basketball family."
