Bucknell Bounced

West Virginia's men's soccer team is still unscored on after blanking Bucknell 1-0 at home on Tuesday.

Head coach Marlon LeBlanc's more aggressive style hasn't yielded any scoring explosions, but, perhaps counterintuitively, it has helped WVU's defense.

Sparking the win was Mountaineer goalkeeper Nick Noble, who earned his school-record 29th career shutout. The blanking moved him past Jon Capon, who previously held the record of 28. Noble had one save as WVU's attacking offense kept the ball in Bucknell's end for much of the contest.

West Virginia scored its only goal in the 18th minute, when Paul Cunningham (six shots) headed a Dan Stratford pass across the line. Although that proved to be WVU's only tally of the evening, the Mountaineers were relentless on offense, firing 23 shots (10 on goal) as opposed to the Bisons' total of seven and one. Eleven different Mountaineers attempted at least one shot.

West Virginia remains at home to face Cal State Northridge at noon on Saturday.
