Women's Soccer Garners Preseason Notice

WVU's women's soccer team has garnered a second place division pick in the Big East Conference, plus representaion on the preseason all-conference squad.

WVU gathered three first place votes and 80 points in ballotting for the order of finish in the Mid-Atlantic Division of the Big East Conference. The Mountaineers trailed only Notre Dame, who took 11 first place votes and 99 points.

Connecticut was was selected to win the regular season title in the Northeast Division. The Huskies lost in last year's Big East semifinal to West Virginia by the score of 1-0.

The Mountaineers placed two players, junior forward Chrissie Abbott and sophomore midfielder Lisa Stoia on the preseason all Big East squad.

Abbott tied for the Big East lead in goals scored with 15 last year, and will be counted on to provide even more scoring punch this year. Stoia was a first team all-conference selection last season who figures to be one of WVU's leaders in 2002.

WVU kicks off conference play on September 18 with a visit to Pittsburgh.
